Where to find and what to expect from intensive swim lessons during holidays

Planning Your Children’s May Half-Term Holidays in London

The May half-term is fast approaching! Unless you are heading abroad, you’ll have a full week to keep the kids active and engaged.

Have you planned their activities yet? While dance, football, and tennis are great, swimming remains one of the most popular and essential skills to master during the school holidays.

Where to find Intensive Swim Lessons in London

Not all London swim schools offer intensive holiday courses, so it’s important to know where to look to find the right fit for your child.

Here are the places you should explore:

Local Leisure Centres

The majority of local leisure centres offer weekly lessons, but they do not always provide intensive swimming courses during half-term.

Even when they do, classes are often based on large groups (anywhere from 6 to 12 children). Because these centres rely on high numbers to run a course, they may not offer lessons for every age group or ability level during a short 5-day window. It is always worth contacting your local Merton or Wandsworth centre early to check their specific schedule.

Schools, Colleges, and Community Pools

Some schools in London, like Wimbledon College, have excellent facilities that open to the local community during holidays. These are often quieter than leisure centres and can provide a better environment for focused learning.

Private Swim Schools: The 1:1 Advantage

Teaching private swimming lesson to a child

Specialist private schools, such as Blue Wave Swim School, focus specifically on intensive 1:1 lessons during the school holidays.

Because we specialise in private instruction, we can cater to all ages and abilities—from toddlers to adults. We believe that when an instructor focuses entirely on one learner, the tailored coaching makes our 1:1 intensive swim lessons far more effective.

A 4 or 5-day intensive course acts as a “fast-track” for a child’s swimming journey. By removing the 7-day gap between lessons, children build muscle memory much faster, mastering basic strokes or advanced techniques in a fraction of the usual time.

Don’t let nerves or a busy schedule hold your child back. If you want them to make a splash and embrace water confidence this May, an intensive course is the perfect starting point.
