Does the thought of swimming lessons fill you with anxiety?

Some may even visit swimming pools for occasional swims every now or then but, still lack confidence. Whether you have anxiety about water or it is your child, for most people who don’t succeed in learning to swim, it’s not for lack of trying. Sometimes swimming classes never worked because the right teaching approach was not implemented and enough attention was not given.

Millions of people in England fear water, preventing them from experiencing the joy and benefits of swimming. But it doesn't have to be this way!

Does this sound familiar?

It's common for both children and adults to experience anxiety or discomfort around water. Here are some signs that you or your child might benefit from our 1:1 swim lessons for nervous swimmers:

  • Hesitation to participate: Your child might not be excited about family swims or resist getting into the pool.
  • Not happy with water on the face or eyes: Your child continuously wipes the eyes and face in the pool and relies too much on goggles in order to be in water and participate in lesssons.

  • Reliance on flotation devices: A fear of swimming without armbands or floats can indicate a lack of water confidence.

  • Clinginess: Your child might cling to you or the side of the pool, feeling unsafe without support.

  • Fear of floating: The idea of back floating or being in the water without touching the bottom can be daunting.

  • Discomfort with submersion: Putting their face in the water or getting their head wet might cause distress.

  • Swimming with head above water: Even if you can swim, you might feel the need to constantly keep your head above water.

  • Panic in deep water: Moving into deeper water can trigger anxiety or panic.

Over the last 15 years, we have met many adults who had swim lessons and can move in water but, never actually learnt to relax in the water. So, they can only swim when they are confident by touching the bottom of the pool. This can limit their enjoyment and confidence in the pool.

This offer a personalised and supportive approach to overcome these challenges. Some children start swim lessons when they are pre-schooler or at school. This means they may have some fear of water already formed in their brain. This prevents them from having a healthy and loving relationship with water. Water confidence building needs time and cannot be rushed. Our experianced Instructors will work with every learner at their own pace, building confidence and helping each swimmer to develop a positive relationship with the water.

No matter the age, feeling comfortable and safe in the water is essential for learning to swim.

Some people need more time and attention than others. So, sometimes group lessons don't provide the right environment for everyone to get water confident. If a learner is uncomfortable in water,  in 1:1 lessons, all the attention from a teacher can be given to one person
