Most “group lessons” in South West London are actually exercises in crowd management. At Blue Wave Swim School, we believe that for a child to truly progress, they need technical intervention, not just supervision. That is why our small group lessons in Wimbledon are strictly capped at three children per teacher (1:3 ratio).
This boutique setting offers the perfect balance: the social motivation of peer learning combined with the individual technical attention usually reserved for private lessons.
Our 1:3 groups are specifically designed for school-aged children who are ready to move from “water play” to “technical mastery.” By learning alongside two peers of a similar age and ability, students stay motivated and engaged through imitation and healthy competition.
Note: For nervous beginners or pre-schoolers, we recommend starting with our 1:1 Private Lessons to build a foundation first.

We don’t just put children in a group because they are the same age. We group them by technical swimming ability. If your 8-year-old is already swimming 25 meters, they won’t be held back by a beginner. They will be placed with two other 25-meter swimmers to ensure the entire group progresses at an accelerated pace.
Our goal isn’t just “getting across the pool.” We teach the mechanics of all four competitive strokes: freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. We aim for full swimming competency as defined by Swim England standards.

If small groups aren’t the right fit for your child’s current level, we offer specialized alternatives to ensure they don’t fall behind:
